Darjean Jones Wines: Joie de Vivre

Every science begins as philosophy and ends as art. This week we are highlighting Darjean Jones Wines, a small, Black family-owned winery that uses the power of science to produce wines that accentuate the classic and vintage characteristics of artisanal California wines. Their motto is simple – “joie de vivre” or joy of living.

Dr. Dawna Darjean Jones was born and raised in Louisiana where she quickly learned the value of delectable Southern cuisine and a great drink. In 2004, she received her PhD in Plant Pathology from the University of California, Davis, focusing primarily on the progression of diseases for certain wine grapes. Upon getting her PhD, Dr. Jones developed a deep fondness for viticulture, which she attributes to her personal life mission, “joie de vivre”. With the strong support of her husband, Chauncy Jones, her newfound interest became a passion, prompting her to embark on a journey of winemaking to further complement her robust background in plant science and pathology by developing a profound understanding for the various grape varietals, fermentation science, and wine microbiology. The Darjean Jones wine collection features a diverse selection of varietals produced by various Californian vineyards found in Napa Valley, Sonoma Coast, and Russian River Valley. Her award-winning wine collection encompasses a wide spectrum of fruit flavors and oriental spice notes that can appease almost anyone’s palate. From a vibrant and luscious Rosé to a more sophisticated and refined Cabernet Franc, you can purchase her wines online and also find out more information on how to pair each of their wines with tasty meals. Don’t hesitate to get your wines and pairing notes today!
